What to do when water is already loose
Four steps for a Piedmont home
Newer houses move water fast, because supply lines are under steady pressure and a split fitting can empty a lot of water in an hour.
- Turn off the main valve, usually in the garage, a utility closet or at the meter.
- Open the lowest hose bib to drain the lines.
- Switch off power to wet rooms if you can reach the panel safely.
- Call the 24/7 line and tell us the street, and whether you have city sewer.
Why Piedmont plumbing problems differ from older towns
Piedmont began as a railroad market town in 1903, stayed small for decades, and grew as a bedroom community for Oklahoma City workers from the 1970s onward. The 2020 census counted 7,402 people, up nearly 30 percent from 2010, and much of the housing is new.
Newer homes have PEX and PVC, so you are less likely to see corroded copper and more likely to meet construction-era problems: a loose fitting, a missed vent, a water heater installed in a tight closet, or debris left in a drain line. Those are fixable, and they are often covered by a builder warranty, so check before you pay.
Plumbing in Piedmont homes is governed by the International Plumbing Code (IPC) as that city adopts it, and new subdivisions are normally built to the version in force when they were permitted.
Neighborhoods and edges we cover
Along State Highway 3
The Northwest Expressway brought most of the growth. Subdivisions on both sides are mostly under thirty years old.
Older town center
The original 1903 townsite has older homes with older drains, and different problems from the new subdivisions.
Rural edges and acreage
Homes outside city service may be on well and septic. Tell us when you call so we bring the right tools.
Border with Oklahoma City
Piedmont's southern edge meets Oklahoma City, so we also see addresses with city and county differences. Confirm your address when you call.
Piedmont water problem?
Call the 24/7 line. A licensed plumber can be scheduled the same day when available.
Tornado season, shelters and your plumbing
Piedmont remembers May 24, 2011, when an EF5 tornado destroyed about 180 homes in the area. Many of the houses built since were designed with storm safety in mind. Storm season brings power outages, and a power outage means sump pumps, if you have one, stop working while heavy rain falls.
After a storm, check for water at the lowest drains, test the water heater for a pilot that went out, and look at the main valve if a tree or debris has hit the house. A sewage backup after a storm is a reason to call right away. See sewer line cleaning.
What Piedmont homeowners usually need
| Problem | Typical cause in newer homes | Next step |
|---|---|---|
| No hot water | Thermostat, element or pilot on a young heater | Water heater repair |
| Slow drains | Construction debris, wipes, grease | Drain cleaning |
| Wet wall or ceiling | Loose fitting or frozen supply line | Burst pipe repair |
| Spike in water bill | Running toilet or irrigation leak | Leak detection |
ZIP code, schools and getting to you
Piedmont addresses use ZIP 73078. A call from anywhere in that ZIP, from the subdivisions along Highway 3 to the rural roads on the edge, is within our coverage. The Piedmont school district, home of the Wildcats, serves several thousand students, and school days and sports weekends mean busy houses. A weekend with many people in the house is hard on any plumbing.
We reach Piedmont from El Reno through the Route 66 corridor and local roads. Drive time varies with traffic, and the dispatcher will tell you when to expect the plumber.
